On 1st September 1896, Abhay Charan Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada was born in a Hindu family. After a few decades, he met a well-known religious leader and scholar, Shri Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, in 1922. The holy leader educated Abhay Charan to introduce the philosophies of Lord Krishna to the west. The influence of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati’s philosophy was a turning point in Abhay Charan’s life.
In 1933, Srila Prabhupada became a follower of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta and spent 32 years making his journey to the western countries to fulfill his mentor’s command.

ISKCON, also known as the Hare Krishna movement, is a monotheistic branch of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, centered around the teachings of Lord Krishna. Chanting His sacred names is a key practice in Krishna Consciousness, promoting peace and happiness by deepening the relationship between humans and God.
From that seed of surrender, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) blossomed across the world.
In 1965, Srila Prabhupada left Vrindavan to spread Lord Krishna's teachings in the West. Arriving in Boston with little more than a trunk of books, he faced initial struggles but soon attracted followers. In 1966, he founded ISKCON in New York, holding weekly Bhagavad Gita lectures and kirtans.
The joy of the chanting drew him in. Over time, the holy name transformed him. He gave up his addictions, found meaning, and eventually became a spiritual guide himself—his life redeemed by the sound of Hare Krishna.
In 1965, His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada left Vrindavan to spread Lord Krishna's message in the West, arriving in Boston with only a trunk of books and little money. Kartik month is a very special month for all devotees of Lord Krishna especially for ISKCON temples. It is often called the "month of Damodar" or Kartik. This is when devotees strongly connect with Lord Krishna and remember his divine pastimes and blessings.
When is Kartik Purnima?
Kartik Purnima falls on the 15th day in the Hindu lunar month of Kartik. It usually falls between October-November. The day is important because it is the culmination of Kartik month. It is a very widely observed month for Shri Krishna's devotees and in ISKCON temples worldwide.
